The National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS) released the July Crop Production Report today. Compared to the May and June estimates, the report showed an increase in wheat production, but a decrease in bushels per acre harvested.
The July report shows a production estimate of 70 million bushels for 2017, while earlier reports projected 69 million bushels. Average yield is estimated at 28 bushels per acre, down 4 bushels from 2016. This average is considerably lower than estimates in previous reports.
Wheat harvested for grain is forecast at 2.5 million acres, which is up from earlier estimates of 2.3 million acres, but still a decrease of 11 percent from 2016.
The July Crop Production Report is compiled from farm operator and objective yield surveys.
