Recently, Texas Wheat Producers Board Member Bob Beakley was featured by the High Plains Journal for their All Aboard Harvest project. This week they updated his harvest progress.
Beakley has served on the Board for many years and represents Texas Wheat nationally by serving on the board of directors for both the National Association of Wheat Growers and Growers National Cooperative.

Bob Beakley has wrapped up the 2009 wheat harvest season. Currently, Beakley and his son have cut about 1,275 acres of hard red winter wheat and 425 acres of soft red winter wheat, totaling 1,700 acres.
Beakley’s family operation consists of one combine and one grain truck. His son is typicially the only other individual who helps during harvest, except when they need to hire additional help to get the wheat harvested.
After experiencing freeze damage in April, Beakley lost about 50 percent of his crop. Beakley’s average yield has been 35 bushels per acre.
“We are pleased with our yields and tests weights considering the damage we have received,” Beakly said.
Beakley also mentioned that the weather has been dry for harvest, but could really use some rain for their other crops, especially corn.
Beakley and his son began harvesting on May 20, and finished on June 6.
