A Texas Wheat Producers staff member attended the Navarro County Food and Fiber Roundup in Corsicana on November 9, 2017, in collaboration with JPM Grain & Storage. The event was hosted by the Navarro County AgriLife Extension Service and has been an integral part of their educational outreach for many years.

Representatives from various agricultural industries, including Southwest Dairy Farmers, a local cotton farm and a swine operation, set up stations at the Navarro County Exposition Center featuring educational materials, from a live pig to freshly-picked corn. Over 800 children visited each station throughout the day.

The theme of the day revolved around lunch. Children were served pizza and encouraged to learn about where each ingredient came from.

The Texas Wheat Producers station featured an array of wheat products, from bread and cake mix to dog treats and packing peanuts. Director of Communications and Producer Relations Darby Campsey discussed the process of growing, harvesting and processing wheat, as well as the nutritional value of whole wheat. A representative from JPM discussed corn farming practices and the many products made with corn.

We would like to thank the Navarro County AgriLife Extension Service and Heather Morris, JPM representative and daughter of Texas Wheat Producers Board member Gary Murphy, for hosting us at the event and helping us promote wheat to the next generation.
