McLennan County Field Day

The Central Texas Small Grain Field Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon  April 27 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center at McGregor.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the field and cost is $10, which includes a noon steak meal. The field day will begin at the variety plot off Texas Highway 84 on the north side, a half mile east of McGregor.

Topics and speakers include:

– Small Grain Update, Dr. Clark Neely, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service small grains and oilseed specialist, College Station.

– Small Grain Insect Scouting Report, Mark Nemec, MJN Consulting, Waco.

– Move to McGregor Center at 9:05 a.m.

– Commodity Market Update, Dr. Mark Welch, AgriLife Extension grain marketing economist, College Station.

–  Drift from a Pilot’s Perspective, Frank Booth or Wes Mullins, instructor pilots, Texas State Technical College, Waco.

–  Using UAVs, Drone Demonstration, John Otwell, RDO Equipment, Austin.

Lunch is sponsored by Dupont, RDO Equipment, Texas Wheat Producers Board and AgriLife Extension crop committees in Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Hamilton, Limestone and McLennan counties.

Three continuing education units will be given: one integrated pest management, one drift and one general upon completion of the program.
