Pre-plant producer meeting set for Jan. 25 in Canyon

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Randall County will conduct the annual Pre-Plant Producer Conference from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Kuhlman Extension Center, 200 N. Brown Road, Canyon.

“The pre-plant conference is extremely valuable for our producers as it provides an excellent opportunity to not only learn results from last year’s studies and trials, but will also aid in decision making for and increased profitability this season,” said J. D. Ragland, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agricultural and natural resources agent for Randall County.

The program is $10, payable at the door. All who plan to attend are asked to preregister by 5 p.m. Jan. 21 by calling the AgriLife Extension office in Randall County at 806-468-5543 or emailing randall-tx@tamu.edu.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be provided – two general and one integrated pest management – for pesticide application. The program will offer an optional hour-long auxin training following lunch for one additional CEU in laws and regulations.

The program will include the following topics and speakers:

  • 2021 Cotton Production Highlights from the High Plains Region – Jourdan Bell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.
  • Cotton Insects Update/Insecticide Recommendations and Timing of Applications, Suhas Vyavhare, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist, Lubbock.
  • 2021 Sorghum Varieties (with advanced herbicide technology) Performance and Yield Results/What New Varieties With This Technology Can Be Expected For 2022 Crop Season, Kevin Heflin, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomy program specialist, Amarillo.
  • Wheat Update/ Recap 2021 Season and Outlook for 2022, Darby Campsey, Texas Wheat Producers Board, Amarillo.
