The Texas Wheat Producers Association held its Texas Wheat Symposium and Ag Appreciation Lunch with the Amarillo Chamber’s Ag & Natural Resources Council at the Amarillo Civic Center Wednesday.  This annual event is held in conjunction with the Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show that brings in thousands of farmers and ranchers from the tri-state area and beyond to explore the latest products and trends in the agriculture industry.

As part of the groups’ mission to promote agricultural production in the region, the Texas Wheat Producers Association and the Ag & Natural Resources Council made a $3,500 donation to the High Plains Food Bank.   Zack Wilson, Executive Director of the High Plains Food Bank, was on hand at the luncheon to accept the donation to their Holiday Fund & Food Drive.  According to the HPFB website, $1 is equal to 9 meals, making this donation have an impact of more than 30,000 meals in our area. The donation highlights the vital role that agriculture products play in feeding communities.

The Wheat Symposium and luncheon this year included a panelist of speakers who gave their insight on “Managing Agricultural Risk in an Era of Uncertainty,” rather than bringing in a national keynote speaker as in the past.  Josh Winegarner, Director of Government Relations for the Texas Cattle Feeders served as the moderator, and the panelists included Dr. Joe Outlaw, Texas A&M Ag & Food Policy Center; Dr. Merri Beth Day, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension; and James Bigouette, Greytek Cybersecurity Lead.

This event was free to attend thanks to the generous sponsors including: AgTexas Farm Credit Services, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo Economic Development Corporation, Amarillo National Bank, Atmos Energy, Broken Arrow Crop Insurance, Bunge, Capital Farm Credit, Cheyenne Station Ranch, Crop & Range Insurance, First United Bank, Heartland CO-OP, High Plains Water District, Plains Land Bank, Ports-to-Plains Alliance, Texans for Ronny Jackson, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Texas Wheat Producers Association, West Texas A&M University Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, and Xcel Energy Texas.
