As the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) refines its policy priorities for the upcoming year, the Texas Wheat Producers Association (TWPA) is actively involved in advancing Texas-specific goals. As a NAWG member, TWPA has two board representatives who serve on committees and contribute to shaping national initiatives.
This November, Texas farmers Scott Born (Ferris) and Eddie Womack (Tulia) will propose two new resolutions aimed at enhancing crop insurance quality adjustment procedures and ensuring adequate coverage availability. If adopted at the national level, these policies will be championed in national advocacy efforts, bolstering both national and state initiatives.
Proposed Resolutions:
- Organization supports efforts to improve crop insurance quality adjustments by refining loss provisions, discount factors, and tables to more accurately reflect marketplace discounts, thereby providing wheat growers with more effective coverage during periods of quality-related losses.
- Organization supports efforts that promote a broad and accessible network of crop insurance providers across all regions, ensuring that wheat growers have sufficient access to qualified agents and diverse policy options to effectively meet their risk management needs.
The resolutions directly address farmers’ concerns about challenges faced during harvest and the crop insurance application period. The association reviews and approves new policy positions annually during its December meeting.
