According to the USDA National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS), Texas wheat producers harvested 67.5 million bushels this year, down from 68.2 million in 2013 and down from 96.0 million bushels in 2012. Statewide yield averaged 30.0 bushels per acre, 4 bushels up from the August 2014 forecast. Harvested acreage for grain was final at 2.3 million acres, down 4 percent from 2013.
Production on the Northern High Plains is forecast at 21.2 million bushels, up 74 percent from last year’s number of 12.2 million. Winter wheat production on the Low Plains is forecast at 9.9 million buschels, down 4.4 million bushels from last year. The Blacklands production estimate is at 2.9 million bushels, down 6.5 million from last year. The Cross Timbers production estimate is at 2.1 million, also down from 2.3 million bushels in 2013.
United States winter wheat production for 2014 totaled 1.38 billion bushels, down 1 percent from last month and 11 percent from 2013. Yields averaged at 42.6 bushels.
