CANYON – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Randall County will conduct the annual Pre-Plant Producer Update Meeting from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 8 at the Kuhlman Extension Center, 200 N. Brown Road, Canyon.
“We’ve tried to line up a program that will get all of our producers updated on the best practices and products to use going into the next planting season,” said Dr. J. D. Ragland, AgriLife Extension agricultural and natural resources agent for Randall County.
Cost is $10 per person, and lunch will be served to those who pre-register by noon Feb. 6 to 806-468-5543.
Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be provided – one each in general and drift minimization – for pesticide applicators.
A separate Auxin Training offered from 1-2 p.m. will provide an additional CEU. All producers are required to be trained if planning to apply the following herbicide products this season: Engenia, Xtendimax or Fexapan.
The program will include the following topics and speakers:
– “Cotton Varieties- 2017 R.A.C.E Trial Results Across the High Plains Region,” Dr. Jourdan Bell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.
– “Recap of 2017 Sorghum Production Season/Sugarcane Aphid Update-Studies and Results,” Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist.
– “How Does Mycotoxin Develop? Prevention Methods to Consider,” Bell.
– “Crop Insurance Update; Rules and Payments Associated with Mycotoxin,” Rachel Myers, Myers Crop Insurance, Claude.
