Castro County Crop Conference

02/15/2018 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

$10

DIMMITT – A reflection on the 2017 crop year and an idea exchange for 2018 will highlight the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Castro County Crop Conference set from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Castro County Expo Building, 403 S.E. 4th St., Dimmitt.

Individual registration is $10 and will include lunch. For more information and to RSVP by Feb. 14, call the AgriLife Extension office in Castro County at 806-647-4115 to ensure an accurate meal count.

Craig Campbell, AgriLife Extension agent in Castro County, said 2017 was an interesting year for many area producers.

“We had issues in corn and cotton, which created many concerns during harvest time,” Campbell said. “I believe we have scheduled some speakers who will be able to provide updates in specific areas and provide useful information to help producers in making decisions for the 2018 planting season.”

Campbell said three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered, one of which will fulfill the mandatory auxin training now required for all producers planning to use Xtendimax, Engenia or Fexapan.

Topics and speakers, all AgriLife Extension personnel, will include:

– Grain/silage considerations: Options for 2018, Dr. Jourdan Bell, agronomy specialist, Amarillo.

– Fumonison effects on silage used by dairies, Dr. Ellen Jordan, dairy specialist, Dallas.

– Fumonison, updates and best practices for 2018, Dr. Jason Woodward, plant pathology specialist, Lubbock.

– 2017 Cotton harvest recap and variety updates for 2018 consideration, Dr. Seth Byrd, cotton agronomy specialist, Lubbock.

– EPA mandatory auxin training for herbicides Xtendimax, Engenia and Fexapan, Dr. Peter Dotray, weed specialist, Lubbock.
