Rain chances remain in the forecast for much of the state this weekend, with the highest probabilities in the Panhandle and Southern High Plains. Forecast totals of 0.5 – 1 inch across portions of the Panhandle are expected to bring harvest progress to a halt for many producers who have only recently begun cutting.

After battling frequent rain delays throughout harvest, farmers in Central Texas are finally getting a much-needed stretch of harvest-friendly weather through Sunday. Harvest in this region is estimated to be approximately 80% complete. Producers who were able to begin harvesting earlier have reported test weights ranging from 57 – 60 pounds per bushel, while fields harvested four to five days later have seen test weights decline into the low to mid 50s, highlighting the impact of recent weather on grain quality.
