Thunderstorms swept across the Panhandle yesterday afternoon and evening, bringing highly variable rainfall totals. While some areas received just enough precipitation to keep combines out of the field, others recorded up to 4.5 inches of rain. The heaviest rainfall was concentrated in the Eastern Panhandle along the Oklahoma border, where some storms also produced strong winds, isolated hail and localized flooding.
For the producers still harvesting, the latest round of rain will likely bring additional delays. Fortunately, many farmers were able to wrap up harvest before these storms moved through. More rain is expected tonight, which could further delay harvest progress for the crews still working to finish their remaining acres.
