Current Assessment Rate
The current assessment rate is 3¢ per bushel.
According to the Texas Commodity Referendum Law, an assessment of 3¢ per bushel has been made on all wheat sold in Texas. Collections are to be made by the “first handler” whether sold, placed in private or government storage, warehouse receipt issued, cleaned for seed, processed or shipped. This includes elevators, gins, pick-up points, shippers, seed companies, mills, feeding facilities, or FSA offices, etc.

Refunds
While there is no exemption from paying the 3¢ assessment, the law provides that any producer who has paid such assessment may obtain a refund of the amount paid, if application for a refund is made within 60 days after the date of payment. Such application shall be in simple letter form, accompanied by proof of payment and submitted to the Texas Wheat Producers Board at 5405 West Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX 79106. Refunds will be made within 30 days after receipt of the request and receipt of funds from the handlers.
