Military veteran farm tour, agriculture program May 17-18 in Liberty

LIBERTY — The Texas AgrAbility Program and Battleground to Breaking Ground Project of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a farm tour and agricultural business workshop May 17-18 in Liberty.

The tour and workshop are both free and open to veterans, individuals with disabilities, beginning farmers and ranchers, and anyone else with an interest in starting or expanding an agriculture-related business

The tour, which is also a networking event, will be from 4:30-7 p.m. May 17 at Langetree Retreat and Eco Center, 2825 County Road 190.

“The retreat and eco center are a local farm, education center and agriculture tourism destination,” said Erin Kimbrough, AgriLife Extension specialist in family and community health, College Station. “We will tour the farm and discuss agritourism, including hosting community events and farm tours, environmental sustainability, marketing and community engagement.

The farm tour and networking session are sponsored by Farm Credit Bank of Texas.

The free Battleground to Breaking Ground agricultural workshop for veterans and others will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 18 at the Jack Hartel Building, 318 San Jacinto St.

Workshop sessions will include agriculture business start-up, business plan development, possibilities for farming/ranching with a disability, financial funding sources for farming and ranching, and marketing and other resources available to support agriculture business operations.
