USDA-NASS estimates 82% of Texas wheat acres have been harvested, putting this year’s crop two percentage points ahead of the five-year average for this time of year.
Warm, dry weather over the weekend provided favorable harvest conditions across the Panhandle, allowing farmers to make steady harvest progress. Yield reports continue to reflect the region’s challenging growing season. Dryland fields that made it to harvest have yielded between 5 and 18 bushels per acre, with most averaging just 6 – 8 bushels per acre. Irrigated wheat has also produced below-average yields, averaging around 40 bushels per acre.
